Employee Spotlight: Meet Our Substance Use Disorder Program Director, Cinderella Stiltner

Published On: June 8th, 2021Categories: News, Spectrum Corrections

At Spectrum Health Systems, our dedicated staff members genuinely care about our clients. We had the pleasure of speaking with one of our Program Directors, Cinderella Stiltner, about her role overseeing the Substance Use Disorder program at the Appalachian Community Corrections Alternative Program (ACCAP) in Honaker, VA, and what she finds to be the most rewarding part of her job.

Cinderella started her career as a counselor with us and has seen what drugs and alcohol usage can do to her community. “Drugs have destroyed many lives in the area in which I live. I have worked with children and teens whose parents were in jail or prison due to drug usage,” she explains. Cinderella’s mission at Spectrum is to make a difference in the generations to come, by providing them with access to our quality programs and to help them get back on their feet.

As Program Director, Cinderella works alongside the Virginia Department of Corrections to foster and provide the best services possible for our clients. The job of a Program Director isn’t always easy, but it’s certainly rewarding. “It is very fulfilling when a probationer is being discharged and they thank you for what you do, or when you get a call from a former probationer who says they are doing well and having a successful recovery,” said Cinderella.

“Professionally, I have learned that people have to be ready to change and that can be hard when you truly see the change within the client, but they don’t yet see it in themselves,” explains Cinderella. Many clients in remission have a hard time adjusting to their new normal once they enter the recovery process. It can seem daunting and scary to go back out into the world and be exposed to triggers and old habits.

Spectrum’s Program Directors are a vital component to providing the right services to help our clients in their daily lives, so they feel confident enough in themselves to take the next step in recovery. The relationships our Program Directors have with clients help to guide them through their recovery journey in a seamless and effective way. We are so lucky to have Cinderella as a part of our team, leading the way for future generations.

Thinking about one day working in addiction treatment services? Cinderella provided her advice for young people wanting to enter this career path. “If you think you would like to work in this field, give it a try! This type of work can be very rewarding, and the more people involved in addition treatment the better, so clients have the support and services they need. Education is crucial to get this epidemic under control!”
