As we continue to grow our services for people struggling with drug and alcohol addiction, we’re also growing our leadership team. We recently welcomed a new Chief Financial Officer, Joe Rose, to our senior leadership team.

Previously, Joe served as the Vice President of Finance and Administration at SleepMed, the VP of Finance and Administration at Concord Family and Youth Services and CFO at Mass Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Children. In addition to being a Certified Public Accountant, he earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Georgetown University.

What drew you to Spectrum Health Systems?

Right before I began my journey to join the organization, I attended a small breakfast for Mass. Governor Charlie Baker. He spoke passionately about making progress in the fight against the opioid epidemic and about his commitment to continue the fight. Up until the breakfast meeting with the Governor, I had only a passing interest in the opioid epidemic. The next day, Spectrum’s Chief Operating Officer, Sherry Ellis, reached out to me about Spectrum’s search for a CFO.

I spoke with Sherry and she shared her positive experiences and enthusiasm for the company. Right then, I knew I was interested in the job. I was then able to speak with more Spectrum leaders, including Kurt Isaacson, CEO; Michael Procopio, Board member/Treasurer; Bob Brandner, CIO; Stacy Flanagan, VP of Human Resources; and Theresa Caron, Director of Reimbursement, and they further developed my interest in working here. Now, I am thankful for the opportunity to join so many committed individuals here at Spectrum who are dedicated to this fight daily.

Why did you choose this new role?

I was impressed by the leadership and vision of Kurt and Sherry. I also had the sense that the company valued quality services and had constructed a management team that shared this goal and worked well together.

Spectrum has always been a mission-focused organization, with a reputation for strong business acumen, which has allowed the company to grow and diversify over time. I look forward to working with my colleagues to build on this solid foundation and move forward with other new endeavors.

What does being CFO entail?

My role is to oversee the day-to-day financial activities of the company including the reimbursement team, finance and accounting. This role also involves contract negotiations, board presentations, coordination of the annual budget and involvement with other members of the senior management team in strategic planning.

What are you hoping to accomplish here?

My goal is to provide the financial leadership necessary to ensure that Spectrum continues to experience financial stability even during times of an ever-changing healthcare environment.

Tell us more about your life outside Spectrum.

I enjoy the outdoors. I like to play tennis, golf and hike. I am a passionate Bruins, Patriots and Yankees fan. My wife and I have twins who are juniors in high school and soon will be active in their searches for college.
