R.E.A.C.H.
Located in Grafton, Massachusetts, Spectrum’s Recovery through Education, Adventure, Commitment and Health (REACH) is a 12-bed program for adolescent and young adult males referred by the Department of Youth Services. Programming includes individual and family counseling, life skills training and academic classes. Project Adventure activities are used to impart lessons in leadership, perseverance, communication, decision-making, teamwork, trust, and personal responsibility.
Recognizing that rehabilitation unfolds as a developmental process involving incremental stages of learning, the program delivers treatment in sequential phases designed to prepare participants for successful transition back to the community. Each phase has clear, specific, and measurable expectations that must be completed in order to progress to the next level. At progressive levels, clients gain responsibility and privilege, thereby teaching them the value of goal setting and the satisfaction of goal-achievement.
Throughout treatment, emphasis is also placed on relapse prevention strategies and aftercare planning to facilitate successful community re-integration. In preparation for discharge, all clients co-develop a concrete and practical aftercare plan to ensure continued recovery and positive community living. Length of stay is individualized, usually ranging between 120 to 180 days.
