Spectrum Health Systems Announces Senior Research Advisor Appointment

Spectrum Health Systems, Inc. is pleased to announce the recent appointment of Roger H. Peters, Ph.D. to the role of Senior Research Advisor.

“We are very excited to have someone of Dr. Peters’ caliber providing consultation and technical assistance,” commented Chris Petrozzi, Senior Vice President of Correctional Services. “Spectrum has a long history of providing evidence-based treatment based on leading research and considers this appointment further demonstration of our commitment to continually improving our clinical approaches and treatment methods.”

Dr. Peters will lend his extensive expertise to Spectrum in various areas including training, technical assistance and program evaluations. In addition, he will help identify opportunities for Spectrum to participate in clinical research studies and demonstration projects. Dr. Peters will also join Spectrum’s Research Advisory Board which includes national experts in the field of addiction, mental health, gender specific programming and criminal justice.

Dr. Peters received his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the Florida State University, following completion of a pre-doctoral internship at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine. He currently serves as a professor in the Department of Mental Health Law and Policy at the University of South Florida, where he has been a faculty member since 1986.

In addition, Dr. Peters has served as Principal Investigator and Director for numerous grant projects, including a NIDA P30 Research Core Center award to establish the USF Center on Co-Occurring Disorders, Justice, and Multidisciplinary Research (CJM Center). He also served as Principal Investigator on the SAMHSA-funded Suncoast Practice and Research Collaborative (SPARC) project.

Dr. Peters served as Chair and Co-Editor of the SAMHSA/CSAT Treatment Improvement Protocol (TIP) #44 on “Substance Abuse Treatment for Adults in the Criminal Justice System.” Also, he is the lead author of the monograph, “Screening and Assessment of Co-Occurring Disorders in the Justice System” (3rd edition) which was published by SAMHSA in 2016. Dr. Peters recently co-authored the “Drug Court Treatment Resource Guide,” published by American University and the Bureau of Justice Assistance. In 2007, Dr. Peters provided testimony to the U.S. House Judiciary Committee on the Second Chance Act legislation.
